As a Missional Church, Luke 10:27 Elders support the non-profit ministries God has birthed at Luke 10:27. Our missions and ministries were created to bridge ethnic diversity in our community and bring healing to the people of our Greater Baton Rouge community.
Elders at Luke 10:27 believe in the 5-fold ministry: pastor, prophet, teacher, apostle and evangelist. At Luke, the word elder describes those persons who have been set apart by God to spiritually lead the body of Christ.
When an elder receives a word from the Lord to share with the body, they let Lonnie know and are scheduled to preach.
Leadership decisions at Luke are not made by voting; but through prayer and consensus.
The elders are overseen by our senior pastor, Lonnie Shupe. Our founding pastor, Leslie Akin and retired pastor, Frank Akin, are advisors to the elders. All elders are overseen by Overseers. The Overseers are spiritual leaders for others outside of Luke.
Our Overseers are Mike DiMaria, Joel Wilson, Don Nichols, and Dr. Durwin Walker.
